Is your skin feeling dry, rough, or looking dull? As we get older, cell regeneration slows down. What does all that mean? Simply stated, it means that our body is slower to shed old skin cells and generate new ones. This is what causes our skin to look dull. Not only will our skin look dull, but if dead skin cells build up, it could lead to blemishes and acne from excess oil and clogged pores. This is where exfoliation to get rid of those dead skin cells two to three times a week for healthy, fresh looking skin comes in.
Proper exfoliation removes the dead skins cells that clog the skin and uncovers the fresh new cells below. Which in turn helps that body butter or body creme be more effective and penetrate more deeply into the skin to help lock in moisture.
There are two different ways to exfoliate, Physical and Chemical. Don’t worry, it isn’t as scary as it sounds.
1. Physical Exfoliation is when you physically scrub using a substance like eco-beads, sugar, or sea salt. Body scrubs, body polish, Snarky Bars, and some of our Chunk bars and face masks and cleansers are examples of physical exfoliation. Two to three times a week is all you need with the more aggressive exfoliators for fresh, beautiful skin.
For a light scrub, you can choose a body polish. This is a gentle scrubby to remove dead skin cells and reveal a bright, youthful glow. It is also great to help lift hair away from the skin making it easier to shave. I love shaving with body polishes! My favorite? Buff Around The Edges, with its infused scrubby loofah and brightening prickly pear cactus. Total spa experience!
For a medium exfoliation, body scrubs are the ones to choose. These are great to pamper yourself with a skin-sloughing body scrub to rid yourself of dry, flaking skin. It will also stimulate circulation throughout the body to reveal fresh, radiant looking skin.
For an extra scrubby exfoliation with a little bit of snark, the Snarky Bar can not be beat! This is a soap based bar of exfoliation that is not like any other. Legs, rough dry patches, and feet! Feet oh my feet! Use this to exfoliate away all that dryness and calluses on the feet! Great to use to exfoliate the day before you use a sunless tanner as well.
2. Chemical exfoliation is actually more gentle than physical exfoliation, even though it sounds kinda scary. When you use a chemical exfoliation you use enzymes and natural acids to help loosen dead skin instead of physically exfoliating. Naturally based chemical exfoliation 1-2 times a week is great to reveal bright skin on your gorgeous face. Depending on your skin type will determine which face mask is best suited for you. Adding exfoliating into your pampering routine is a must if you want healthy, glowing skin. You are totally worth it and deserve it!
